ACC

Bare metal stent (BMS)
A type of coronary stent that does not have a drug coating back to top

Coronary artery lesions
Refers to narrowing of the artery in the heart; development and progression of a lesion coincides with the progression of coronary artery disease back to top

Contraindication
Something (as a symptom or condition) that makes a particular treatment or procedure potentially unsafe back to top

Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT)
The combination of aspirin and a thienopyridine/antiplatelet medication to reduce the risk of blood clots back to top

Drug-eluting stent (DES)
A type of coronary stent that slowly releases a drug to prevent cell growth that could otherwise contribute to the blocking of the stented artery back to top

Double-blind trial
A type of clinical trial in which neither the patient nor the researcher knows what treatment intervention is being administered back to top

Investigational device exemption (IDE)
A regulatory milestone, approved by the FDA, which allows an device to be used in a clinical study back to top

MACCE

Myocardial ischemia
A medical condition caused by a blockage in one or multiple heart arteries back to top

Myocardial infarction

Open-label trial
A type of clinical trial in which both the patient and the researcher know which treatment is being administered back to top

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
A therapeutic procedure used to treat narrowed blockage in the arteries of the heart, through widening a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel with a metal mesh tube, called a stent back to top

Post-market study
A clinical study that is conducted with medical products that have already been approved by the FDA for commercial use back to top

Randomized trial
A type of clinical trial that involves the random allocation of different treatment interventions to subjects back to top

Stent
A man made metal mesh tube that is used to open a blockage in an artery back to top

Thienopyridine/antiplatelet medication
A class of pharmaceuticals designed to prevent blood clots from forming back to top

Thrombosis
The formation of a blood clot back to top

Trial endpoint
In a clinical trial, a disease, symptom, or sign that constitutes one of the target outcomes of the trial back to top
